Enabling validation of Dataflow computing models in the Software 2.0 Era

Tokyo, Oct. 27th, 2022—  SambaNova Systems, the company delivering the industry’s only comprehensive software, hardware, and solutions platform to run Artificial Intelligence (AI), deep learning, and foundation model workloads, announces its opening the SambaNova Tokyo Technology Center, a dataflow computing verification facility in the Tokyo region, enabling customers to verify their system development for the Software 2.0 era.

Modern AI, which is Software 2.0, is a dataflow graph with neural net weights moving and updating, and Software 2.0 is a dataflow problem. However, dataflow problems were computed using conventional CPUs and GPUs, which were less efficient, and on the other hand, there was no facility that had access to dataflow computers that could efficiently solve the dataflow problems.

“SambaNova AI Platform is a fully integrated AI platform that delivers innovation at each level of the AI stack, to provide the “AI backbone” for the coming wave of AI innovation over the next 10 years.” said Marshall Choy, SVP of Product at SambaNova Systems.

Toshinori Kujiraoka, Country Sales Director, SambaNova Systems Japan, said “We are delighted to open our Technology Center in Tokyo to further advance our market traction in Japan. We have received a great deal of interest in SambaNova’s dataflow architecture from major manufacturing companies, universities, research institutes, and AI start-ups, who are verifying their applications in a variety of fields. We expect that the newly opened Tokyo Technology Center will contribute to many companies and research institutions in Japan by demonstrating that SambaNova’s dataflow architecture is the most suitable next-generation AI platform.”

Hironobu Tamba, Vice President, Head of IT-OT Innovation Division, SoftBank Corp., said “SoftBank is tackling many dataflow challenges, such as floating population analysis, supply chain management, and foundation models. These problems should be solved by dataflow computers, but until now we have not been able to verify their effectiveness, and we hope that SambaNova’s Tokyo Technology Center will lead to a breakthrough in this area.”
